Swiss Bread
Ingredients
- B Afton Richardson
- 1 c. shortening, melted
- 3 c. warm water, divided
- 1 c. sugar or ½-⅔ c. honey
- pinch sugar
- 2 T. salt
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 3 c. scalded milk
- 14-16 c. flour
- 2 T. active dry yeast
- 1 egg beaten
Directions
Put 2 T. yeast in 1 c. of warm water with a pinch of sugar and set aside. In a large bowl, mix 4 eggs, sugar, 2 c. warm water, shortening, milk, and salt. Then add in your yeast mixture. Slowly add 14-16 cups of flour, mixing in between. Divide dough in 6 pieces and place in greased bread pans. Let rise. When risen, brush 1 beaten egg over the top of the dough. Bake at 375° for 35 minutes. Makes 6 loaves.
